About Us
Gosport Volunteer Centre has been helping volunteers and organisations in the Borough of Gosport since 1990. It is one of several services offered by Gosport Voluntary Action.

More About What We Do...
Gosport Volunteer Centre is a nationally accredited Volunteering Development Agency (VDA). It is one of 13 very different VDAs (often known as Volunteer Centres or Volunteer Bureau) in Hampshire, which provide support at a local level for individual volunteers and volunteer involving organisations. They work together across Hampshire to deliver six core functions
-
Brokerage - Our most important function is to match both individuals and groups interested in volunteering with appropriate voluntary work in the local community. We hold information on a comprehensive range of opportunities and offer potential volunteers support and advice matching their motivation to volunteer with appropriate volunteering vacancies.
-
Marketing volunteering - We stimulate and encourage local interest in volunteering and community activity. This may include promoting and marketing volunteering through local, regional and national events and campaigns and raising awareness about the national brand for volunteering.
-
Good practice development - Where possible we promote good practice in working with volunteers to all volunteering organisations. This includes providing training and accreditation for potential volunteers, volunteers, volunteer managers and the volunteering infrastructure.
-
Develop volunteering opportunities - We work in close partnership with statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations as well as community groups and faith groups to develop local volunteering opportunities. Volunteer Centres understand the potential offered by local communities and work with them to realise this potential. We will target specific groups which face barriers to volunteering and work creatively to develop imaginative, non-formal opportunities for potential volunteers.
-
Policy response and campaigning - We identify proposals or legislation that may impact on volunteering and participate in campaigns on issues that affect volunteers or volunteering. Across Hampshire, Volunteer Centre Managers campaign proactively for a more volunteer-literate and volunteer-friendly climate, working closely on promoting the One Compact Code for Volunteering.
-
Strategic development of volunteering - As the local experts on volunteering, we inform strategic thinking and planning at a regional and national level through active membership of Volunteering England and Hampshire Volunteer Centre Network.
